Examination

A comprehensive medical history is always taken first, so that we can take care of you while providing dental treatment. It is absolutely crucial that we know all your medical conditions as well as any medication you may be on as this may affect your dental treatment.

In order to discuss your problems and the treatments you require we may use digital X rays as well as digital photography.
During your dental examination we will not only have a look at your teeth but also all your soft tissues. We will:

  • Record teeth present and restorations (e.g. fillings, crowns and dentures present)
  • Check and record caries and defective restorations
  • Check and record level of oral hygiene and gum disease (a high percentage of people have gum disease without knowing)
  • Check your occlusion (bite)
  • Check for ulcers and lumps and other signs of mouth cancer inside the cheeks, palate, tongue and floor of mouth.
  • Check the health of the jaw joints (TMJ), and lumps under the jaw.

Where treatment is required we will schedule an appointment and give you, if required, written treatment plans and costs.

DIGITAL RADIOGRAPHY

For patients safety and convenience we use digital radiography.

Why are digital X-Rays better?

  • The digital dental X-ray system is more sensitive than dental X-ray film systems, so your exposure to X-rays is cut by as much as 90 percent.
  • The large, colour-enhanced images let you see what your dentist sees, so it's easier for you to understand how your dentist will treat your teeth.
  • Your fees don't include payment for photo chemicals, film, processing or film storage. Used photo chemicals and film are not polluting the environment.
  • Your dental checkups take less time, and it means you can view your images on the computer.
